A Basic Guide To The Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) Network

Multi-level marketing (MLM) is also referred to as network marketing. The MLM is essentially a type of business model that combines direct marketing with franchising. The term business model describes a vast range of informal and formal models that are used by companies to represent various aspects of business, such as operational processes, organizational structures, and financial forecasts. The MLM business functions by enrolling unsalaried salespeople to sell products and meanwhile earn additional sales commissions based on the sales of people enrolled into their down line, an organization of people that includes direct recruits, recruits' recruits and so on. This arrangement is similar to franchises where royalties are paid from the sales of individual franchise operations to the franchisor as well as to an area or region manager. There can be multiple levels of people receiving royalties from one person's sales. New MLM members may be required to pay for their own training and marketing materials, or to buy a significant amount of inventory to start their career.

The compensation plans vary from one MLM business to the other, but there are basic plans in place. The Unilevel or Stairstep Breakaway plans are the oldest and most popular in the MLM business. These plans features two types of distributors either managers or non-managers. The pay method of these plans includes Baseshop overrides where there are overrides of managers from their subordinate non-managers. This method is the same as any other type of sales organization. Generational overrides are overrides of managers from the baseshop of managers who were previously their subordinate. Most plans compensate at least three generations of such managers. Executive bonuses are commissions for managers who exceed a posted sales quota. For example, 2% of the total company sales revenue may go to a bonus pool that is shared monthly to managers who exceed $10,000 in that month. Commissions are based on the aspect of cycles, where a distributor is paid a fixed amount whenever both legs achieve a certain number of sales units each. Commissions are paid incrementally when the sales volume in each leg matches.

In recent years, the MLM business has developed an image problem due to its resemblance to the illegal pyramid or other similar schemes. MLM businesses operate in the United States in all 50 states and in more than 100 other countries around the world. Many pyramid schemes try to present themselves as legitimate MLM businesses. In the legitimate MLM companies, commissions are earned only on sales of the company's products and/or services. No money may be earned from recruiting alone through sign-up fees, though money earned from the sales of members recruited is one attraction of MLM arrangements.

A commonly adopted test of legality is that MLMs follow the so-called 70% rule which prevents members "inventory loading" in order to qualify for additional bonuses. The 70% rule requires participants to sell 70% of previously purchased inventory before procuring new orders. There are however variations in interpretations of this rule. Some attorneys insist that 70% of purchased inventory should be sold to people who are not participants in the business, while many MLM companies allow for self-consumption to be a significant part of the sales of a participant. The Federal Trade Commission offers advice for potential MLM members to help them identify those activities that could be scams.

Using PLR Content to Promote Your Business

I've been doing a lot of reading lately about Private Label Rights (PLR) content. I used to think that it was only for lazy people who didn't want to do their own writing. But as I researched and learn more about it, I came up with lots of great ways I could use PLR in my own business.


If you don't know what I'm talking about, PLR is content that you get from the original author along with their permission to use it as your own. So you can get a great report, put your name on it and have your own product to sell or give away!


When searching for PLR content to use, I found there were a lot of different types of sites available. Some offered monthly memberships and others offered just one time purchases. So always be sure to look around before you decide where you want to buy.


The site I found that was by far the best was PLRWholesaler. Not only do they have an unbelievable amount of content, but it's completely FREE. Most sites charge an arm and a leg for the amount of content that this guy is giving away.


And although I haven't been through everything yet, what I have read is very good quality. It's great stuff you would actually want to use as your own.


Since it's free, I highly recommend that you check out PLRWholesaler and see if they have anything that you can use to help your business. There just may be an ebook or audio recording that you could quickly brand with your information and start selling to your list.

When to Quit a Business

It is undeniable that a lot of businesses quit their operations because the income from the business is no longer enough to sustain the expenses it incurs. In some cases though, you can also have several businesses to cease operations even when it generates enough income simply because the business owner had decided to get involved in another business. And in some even rarer cases, the business stops operations because there was an offer from their competitor to buy out the shares so that they will become the market leader. If you do encounter this situation, it is important to conduct a cost-benefit evaluation about whether the offer is financially viable.

There are still many other reasons why a business ceases to operate but in a franchise business, the reason for quitting is usually quite common. Some of the reasons that franchise owners cite is the high cost of the royalty fee they have to pay together with the cost of doing the actual business. In addition, there are the overhead expenses, the rental fees, the salary, and the miscellaneous expenses a franchise has to deal with. And while other businesses encounter the same problems, a franchise usually incurs more expenses because they have to buy the products they sell from a specific source; this limits their ability to take advantage of cheaper alternatives.

Another reason why a franchise business may cease is that the product or service they might be selling is already of trend. For example, there are cases when a particular kind of food suddenly becomes popular because of the uniqueness of its shape but there is the possibility that the customers may lose interest once the company stops creating new offerings.

However, despite the challenges you have to face in a franchise business, it is important to remember that the essential characteristic of a businessman is perseverance. You should take note that in some industries, you will have to sustain losses in the first few years of operations before you can enjoy profits. So you need to take this into consideration also before you decide to close your business. But if despite your best efforts, your business still continue on its downward trend, then you obviously have no choice but to cut your losses and hope you can get back your capital upon liquidation.

But the failure of one business should not discourage you from seeking out other business opportunities because this will hinder you from success. You should just count these failures as the price for experience so that you will know what to do the next time you encounter these problems. Managing Time Means Managing Your Life

There is one commodity that nearly everyone runs out of and that is time. For some reason when someone opens a home business they believe that suddenly their days will have more hours in them than they did when they worked for someone else. Unfortunately, it doesn't take long for them to realize that there are not only the same number of hours in a day, but that those hours may seem like they have fewer minutes in them.

Time management is not a skill that can be taught,it is a behavior that has to be learned. Many tools are available to help you manage your time, but you have to take the initial steps in getting started before you can make better use of the time you have.Time management will also help you balance their work and home life,commonly referred to as creating a work-life balance and to give you the start you need to realize how closely they are related.

many people have a calendar for their work and a separate calendar for their family life. With the two so closely connected, they only need one calendar. Instead of having to consult with two pieces of paper before determining if you can make a meeting or not, pulling out one calendar can make the decision an easy one. It does not matter what brand is considered the best or the most expensive. The only thing that matters is that you get a planner with a calendar and use it regularly.

Before you fill out the calendar you will need to make sure you have your priorities in order. Every day, new priorities will pop up based on emergencies and customer demands. One thing to consider is that when a customer emergency comes up and is direct conflict with a scheduled family event, you will have to decide on where your priorities are on that specific date and time. If you have a helper who can take care of the customer issue, without conflicting with their family calendar, that's a plus. If not, the customer may have to wait until you get done.

Setting daily priorities should always begin with a block of time being set aside as contingency time. That is time set aside to handle unexpected issues and can be as little as 15 minutes. If nothing happens, you have an extra 15 minutes unclaimed at the end of the day. If it does, you have time to handle it without throwing the schedule complete out the window.

Possibly the best thing you can do to better manage your time is to establish a minimum of 10 minutes every morning to review what you have to do that day and reprioritize any items that did not get done from yesterday's list. This daily planning session can be the first thing you do when you get to your office or when you finish your first cup of coffee. The bottom line is you need to get into the habit of reviewing your daily plans and then stick to the plan throughout the day.

The biggest part of networking is convincing yourself to be social and not just a flower on the wall. Next time you attend a networking function try considering the following tips to help yourself become more successful along with looking successful and sounding smooth to those around you.

Before you attend the event write down what your strengths, attributes and special skills are in order for you to know why someone should be interested in what you have to offer. Keep these strengths in order in your head to help boost your confidence and remind yourself of why people should be talking with you and listening to what you have to say.

Next thing picture in your mind the room, picture yourself shaking hands and talking with people. try visualizing everything you would be doing,it can really help even they most shy individual. Visualization is a powerful tool used by many successful people whether it's in business, sports or entertainment.

And when you show up make sure you have a confident posture, a controlled walk, a smile on your face and a firm handshake to those you meet.never forget to make lots of eye contact. Then be sure to use the immediate environment to start a conversation such as the host for example. This should help you find a common bond and keep the conversation going. Always start with some small talk before you get down to business.

When you need to get down to business have some questions already prepared to ask people in order to find out what their needs are and then you can shape the conversation in order to reflect the way your services will help people in these areas. You don’t have to be pushy, rather soft sell yourself and build interest. This will make people more receptive to be helped by you.

Talking is only half of the event. When it comes your turn remember to repeat the individuals name back to them, actively listen to what they have to say and keep a mental database of as many of the details as you can about the person to whom you are talking. If possible always get a business card and don’t be afraid to ask for it. The best time to ask is usually after they have talked about what they do and then you can offer yours in return.

Then when you return home be sure to write out information on the back of the card or a sheet of paper that can be stapled to the card. This way you can maintain and build a report for future meetings, emails and phone calls. Everyone likes a person who remembers them. Then within twenty-four hours be sure to email everyone and say you enjoyed meeting them and mention a detail you remembered and suggest that they keep in touch with you.

Make Decisions Based On Facts Not Emotions

Running a business can be fun, but many successful business owners have come to a tough realization that in a business environment, they have no friends. They have employees that are dedicated to the company and they may have customers that are loyal, but the bottom line of the business is the prime concern they have to watch. One of the biggest obstacles they face in the day to day business operations is their own emotions and they need to leave them at home when they head for the office.

For instance, a business owner is approached by their financial expert who tells them they have to cut half of their workers loose in order to meet expenses. This can be an emotional time for the owner as on one hand, many of the workers are loyal to the company and are very productive. On the other hand the company needs to be able to run leaner to make ends meet.

Simply based on the emotions of keeping the business operating, the solution may seem obvious in cutting half the workforce. However, before making that call the owner needs to look at all the facts and not just the financial ones. Questions need to be asked such as how long will this lack of income last? If we layoff employees, how much will be spent on unemployment compensation? What are other options in cutting expenses, such as is the finance guy really necessary?

If half of the workforce is let go, what will be the effect on productivity and customer service and will the remaining employees be able to handle everything without the additional help? After thoroughly understanding all of the available options and the effects of instituting any suggested changes it is found that half will need to be let go, then that is the right decision for everyone.

Decisions have to be based on how the outcome will affect everyone involved and not just the ones being laid off. Sure, it is a tough decision but one of the responsibilities of a business owner is being able to make the tough calls, knowing it is the right one for the business as well as for the remaining workers. Unfortunately, there is no hard and fast rule about which employees will need to go away. Seniority may be the deciding factor, but some businesses use productivity instead.

For example, a new hire may produce as much or more as an employee with several years experience, the new hire may be a better fit. Owners should never look at payroll as a deciding factor as getting rid of some of the higher paid, long-term employees is also getting rid of loyalty as well as experience.

The decision should be based on who can offer the most to the business, a decision based on facts rather than the emotions of who needs the job more. From a cold fact point of view, if the worker needs the job that bad, they have probably been a consistently hard, productive asset to the company.

Know Your Business Or Know You Will Fail

Too many times business owners get so wrapped up in their business that they forget about running it and end up failing miserably. They may be the best at what they do but if they lose track of any aspect of their business they can wind up playing catch-up or eventually simply giving up. The majority of new business owners get off to a good start based on a viable business plan, but once in the heat of the battle forget about the plan and learn the hard way that winging it is not going to make it work. http://www.incomeworking.com

It is one thing for the plan to call for you to make a set dollar amount of sales every month, but if it does not specify how it will make that goal, the plan will fail. There is an old business saying that states failing to plan is planning to fail and in any business this is true. However, if the business owner cannot say on a daily basis where they are at in meeting their goal, they will not reach it.

For example, if your plan calls for $10,000 a month in sales and on the 15th of the month sales are only at $3,000 chances are you will miss your goal by $4,000 for the month. On the 15th it is too late to make up the other $4,000 for the month. Tracking the progress on a daily basis will make it easier to hit the numbers over the 30-day period. Knowing they have to do $340 in sales every day to hit the $10,000 mark if at the end of day one they are at $300, they have to take steps to add another $40 to the next day's business.

If sales exceed their expectation they cannot slack off and allow the extra on day one to cover any potential short fall on day two or three. They must still aim at the daily goal in order to insure they meet their planned monthly numbers. If they happen to go over the monthly goal for sales, they just need to remember that profit is not a dirty word.

On the flip side, while projecting daily sales they also must project daily expenses. For instance if they plan on expenses to be 30 percent of sales and sales meet the $340 per day, they can spend $102 on expenses. If sales for the day only hit $200, they are going to have to trim expenses to $60 in order to hit their planned profit numbers. In some businesses, expenses may have to be tracked by the hour to meet the goal for the day as waiting until the end of the day to find out the expenses exceeded the goal, meaning expenses from the next day will have to be cut.

With any new business, it may be difficult to forecast income and expenses on a daily basis, especially when the environment such as bad weather or supplier issues can influence the daily business. However, by staying on top of the business the owner can maintain better control over the profit potential.

Search engine optimization essentially means getting important keywords into the titles and sub-titles of the website pages that you have and also making sure that keywords are sprinkled throughout the text in appropriate percentages. In general, potential investors will be looking for how much money the business needs to get started, justifying the total amount as well as how long it will take before the business expects to turn profitable. They will also want to know about the person who will be running the business. Many investors will want the operator to have experience in the business. A person planning to open a hot dog shop, for example, may have 20 years of experience in management but has never worked in food service, will have little to offer the investor in the way of an incentive to think they may succeed. On the other hand, if they worked for another hot dog shop for 10 years and have five years in food service management, the investor will feel better about your chances of success.

Regulatory compliance is another hot issue for many investors as they do not want to see the business closed down for violating state or federal laws. The business owner, or a representative, must be knowledgeable about the laws governing the particular business and have inspection steps in place to insure compliance with all rules and regulations. 2. Be realistic about how long it's going to take you to get things done. Set aside a reasonable amount of time in your day planner, especially if you have appointments where you have driving some where to consider.

3. Always remember to schedule time with yourself that will be without interruptions. Even if that means closing your office door and letting your aswering machine take the phone messages for you, then thats what you have to do. Do this at your most productive time of the day. If you are a morning person? Then start your day out with some quiet time all by yourself, this is when you can be most productive and much more focused.

4. Try not to multi-task. 9. Use your time productively. While waiting for an appointment or traveling, try catching up on some of the reading you've been neglecting, such as those trade magazines, writing correspondence, or just jotting down creative ideas for marketing your business.

10. And at the end of each and every day, plan for the next day. Always write down tomorrows to-do list, prioritizing it, and then clean off your desk making it ready for the start of the next day.
